Lots of reading.

We've been doing quite a lot of reading over the past couple of days.  It started off with K re-reading part of Roman Britain yesterday before breakfast, because there were some things she couldn't remember!  We also continued with both Anglo-Saxons and Vikings and Ruby Redfort, which we finished today and which M has taken with her to start reading again in bed this evening!  Both girls have also been reading some of the stories that Shakespeare used for his plays in Shakespeare's Storybook, which we borrowed from friends, although only, of course, as ever the comedies.

M had her first proper French horn lesson yesterday, which she really enjoyed.  It was interesting for me, as unlike their piano lessons, I sat in the room with them.  M's teacher had warned her that it will be a while before she gets to play any tunes, and although she did very well, it's clear why this is the case.  Although M can play a couple of different notes without using the valves, she can't yet play the ones she's trying to play completely consistently and to start with it's all about strengthening and training the muscles around her mouth.

In other news, having cracked leapfrogging on Monday, we had something of an oops today, when I stood up, thinking that M hadn't managed it and had ended up in a piggyback position, but was a bit premature in my assumption and somehow flipped her over, so she landed on her head on the (fortunately fairly soft) grass.  She was a bit shaken up and muddy, but fine a very short time later.

Muddy nosed M!
And finally, I was really enjoying the contrast of K's evening today.  As she's going on camp with Scouts this weekend, she went to ballet this evening instead of her usual Saturday, and then straight from ballet to Scouts.  She always wears a camouflage t-shirt under Scout uniform and changed after her ballet lesson.

K - ballet dancer and Scout!
