Life learning.

Today K & M learned about what you need to do when you discover that you have lost your bank card and that this discovery is rather stressful!

There's been quite a lot of maths crop up today too.  Both K & M needed new shoes (both shoes and trainers for K), so we went to our local shoe shop, where they have a customer loyalty card for children's shoes: you get the 12th pair free, as long as they don't cost more than the average price of the 11 pairs that you paid for.  So we had a quick reminder of what 'average' means.

Later we were sitting on a bench in the shopping centre eating ice-creams and they noticed sale signs in the shop opposite for 50% off, which lead to a discussion of how you wouldn't ever see 100% off, but you do sometimes see 100% extra free and a few correctly answered questions about how many would be in a packet of 10 with 50/30/100% extra free.

In Market Square in the town centre, there were some marquees up and things going on for the World Event Young Artists as part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad.  We were given a couple of t-shirts and I noticed a pile of cards for a 'Haiku' competition, so we've been talking about that and making some up.  There were some musicians in one of the tents playing, so we went and listened for a while and I encouraged K & M to try to pick out which instruments (some of which I'd never seen before, as well as some drums and guitars) were making which sounds.

Here are a few our our Haiku.
First M's:
I like toast with jam
It has to be summer jam
On sourdough bread

And some I came up with:
Home education
We learn so much just living
Why would we use school?

She likes dinosaurs
Climbing trees and playing out
My lovely M M

K my lovely girl
Lives with imagination
And her lively mind

I have two daughters
They are both so beautiful
They light up my life
