I know some people got on holiday to get heat like we're getting at the moment, but as a family we are definitely not those people! It's far too hot to do much at the moment, but things occasionally crop up. Today we had to pop out to get some milk and A's prescription among other things and while out, M asked if we could get some sunglasses for her and K agreed this would be a good idea. So we went into Vision Express, where the girls had their eye tests last week and had a look at theirs, but there weren't any that either of the girls particularly liked, so we went across the road and had a look in Specsavers. When we discovered that their children's sunglasses started at £64 we quickly left, as the Vision Express ones were £10! After having a look in the charity shops, M decided that she thought one of the pairs of sunglasses that she'd tried on were okay after all, so we went back there and, once there K agreed, so we tried to buy two pairs. They only had one in stock, so M has had those, since she's been suffering a bit with hayfever and had also decided first that she would like them. When it came to paying, it was a different woman who served us and asked for £20 per pair. I queried this as I'd understood that they were £10, but when she showed me it was clearly marked as £20 on the glasses themselves. She disappeared and returned saying that since we'd decided not to buy them earlier, the woman serving hadn't mentioned that this particular pair wasn't £10, but £20, but that they would let me have the two pairs for £15 each. Not only was this excellent customer service, but it also provided a maths opportunity and K told me that this meant we'd saved 1/4 or 25% of the full price!
This afternoon, we stayed in and watched The Five Children and It on dvd, which we all rather enjoyed, although it took us a while to decide what to watch, as when we were at Coughton Court we'd found the two of the BBC Chronicles of Narnia series dvds that we didn't already have and The Railway Children. We usually read books before we watched film or television adaptations, but haven't read The Railway Children yet, so we might have to wait a while, as I don't think we have it. We're planning on going to the library tomorrow (we were going to go today, but I keep forgetting that the library now closes at 1pm on a Wednesday as it's open on a Sunday since the reopening and we were too late), so we could see if they have it in or ask them to get it in for us. I'm not sure I'll be able to persuade them to pause the Charlie Bone reading at the moment though - we're now on book four and still going strong.
