An extremely rare event.

Today I had a whole day on my own at home.  It does happen very occasionally that I go elsewhere for some 'me time', or that A and the girls go out for several hours, but I don't think I've had a whole day on my own at home since I had K, which is coming up for 10 years!

This is where A, K & M were. K & M were playing in the Under 11 and Under 9 competitions respectively and A was refereeing.  They left at 8am and didn't get home until about 7pm.

So what did I do with myself?  First I did some boring jobs, including a load of washing which I hung out to the accompaniment of Test Match Special on the radio and the roar of the crowd from Trent Bridge, who were watching the final day of a very eventful first Ashes test match.  Then I got my new sewing machine out and had a play.  I managed to do the essentials, winding the bobbin, threading it up, even change the needle.  I had a bit of a play, trying out different stitches for example.  I was rather pleased with myself that I managed to work out why it wasn't working at one point (I hadn't re-threaded it correctly after changing the needle) and then I attempted my first proper task with it.  I repaired M's very old curtains that were here when we moved in and had fallen apart, but she likes them and wants to keep them.  I haven't re-hung them yet, A is going to do that while the girls and I are at my parents' for the next couple of days, but I think I did an okay job!

I also used some of the many cherries that we picked and finally went to pick some more!

The result.
K, M & A arrived back while I was out picking cherries, having had a very hot and sunny but good day.  Both girls enjoyed themselves playing, even though before they had both wanted to be playing in the groups that the other was in.
