Shakespeare is once more in vogue here, at least with K and me. I have been doing a course with Futurelearn and noticed that they had this course: Much Ado About Nothing: in Performance. I wondered if the girls would be interested in following it with me, and although M wasn't, K was quite keen.
I had also spotted that there was a live broadcast into cinema's of the RSC's current production of what they are Much Ado, which they are calling Love's Labours Won, on Wednesday evening. We have seen a theatre production of Shakespeare in the cinema before, when we went to see the Globe's Twelfth Night and we all really like that, so I thought the girls might like to go. Unfortunately it clashed with swimming, and M decided that she didn't want to miss that. This turned it into something of a logistical problem, as A was away with work and the girls' (and my) first choice childsitter was away on a school trip, but our reserve option was around and we managed to sort it out.
I'm really glad that we managed to work it out, as not only did K and I enjoy it, but the course we're doing is focusing on this particular staging later on. K worked through the videos, articles and quiz on Week 1 of the course by herself (as did I) and then later we had another look at some parts again together. K was either not keen or found it too difficult to express herself about what we watched and read, but said that she was enjoying the course and finding it interesting. With each of the videos there are a couple of questions to consider and I have asked her to try to put something into words for at least a couple of them for Week 2 and has agreed to have a go.
Next weekend, we're going down to my parents' for Mothering Sunday and will spend the day in Stratford, it's been a while since we've been to Shakespeare's Birthplace or Mary Arden's Farm, so we'll go to one or both of them too.
